The genealogy and family history of the Preston family of Westmorland and its associated branches. All members of the Preston families and those interested in the history and genealogy of the families are welcome to use the site for their interest, research and to contact members of the family already using the site.

Si Dieu Veult - "God Willing"

It is appropriate that the first words on the first page of a family history website should be the family motto and the motto of our own family is perhaps more appropriate than most. While the motto is certainly that of the Westmorland branch of the Preston family, there are others used by other branches. It would be interesting to hear from other branches of the family with details of their motto, but perhaps most interesting of all would be to hear from other members of the Westmorland branch. Although close to a thousand years old, part of the Westmorland branch continues to use the motto to this very day. If any others still use their motto, please contact the Webmaster with details and they will be published on the site.

After many delays, the family website inspired by the late Mr. Roy Preston who was the originator and lead contact for the Preston One-Name Society is finally active. Over the last several months it has been gradually built up and details of its construction carefully recorded for the benefit of others who may want to make a similar site. Should anyone who has been using the earlier versions of the site want any elements of it to be included in the current version, please contact the Webmaster with your requests. An email message page will be added soon to provide a simple way to send such messages. Please note, though, that many of the earlier descriptions of the site technology, methods and standards have been moved to the web-log rather than incorporated into the main pages.

As pages in the web-log (also, and perhaps better, known as a "blog") are added, the list of links in the "Latest Information" section will include references to individual articles so it will be easier to read just those you are interested in. The main link will show the summary page but you can select specific pages from there, either by title or by the date the entry refers to.

For the moment, this page and the blog entries have few pictures included. Those will be quickly added, so readers may see rapid change to the appearance of the site before any real change to the content is made. Have patience, dear readers, for there is a great deal to add and several unusual internet technologies will be used by the site to allow it to be included.
