New features

The site is becoming quite busy but as yet the main push seems to be to add more and more new features. This month, we have been obliged by our chums at Google to change the way parts of the Journal site works, but thanks to their skills we have been able to add this to the main site too. You'll find it off to the right as our new "Members" area, which I hope to add some social gadgets to over the next development schedule.

In addition, the Family Records are growing apace, and I now have all the records from the UK census, plus all the records from all the parish documents of the UK available and stacked in a large pile of folders awaiting my attention. This does mean that we now have a record of every member of the Preston family who was recorded in the British Isles - and whose records have not yet been lost.

For the moment, please don't contact me to ask for specific details of your own family - there are a lot of people doing that at the moment and, until other people start to maintain the site with me I simply don't have the time to deal with all the requests. The easiest way to get the answers you want is to fill in your own family history into our Family Records section and ask for help about that.

People doing that will get priority when it comes to questions about their own family records that I may be able to help with.

Journal postings

Thanks to a rather out of the blue question from our Colonial friends out there in the US of A, the second Journal entry for 2009 has taken an excursion into what I would regard as fantasy land - a question about the links the family might have to Robin Hood!

I fear there may be apologies due to those who asked, but it seems that any such link is profoundly unlikely. That isn't to say impossible - I was surprised to find that it is actually possible in a very limited sense.

Having dealt with that, we will get back to the development plan next time.

Family records

The family records wiki is growing, though I have to say much slower than hoped.

At present, I am busy filling in the details of the family of the Viscounts Gormanston and Barons Drunhaire - of Ireland, for those who don't recognise the names. It has taken a while since I am using these to add to the "Help" files and set up a template for new entries.

Please join me and help - add your own family details to the Records.

The site, uses a Creative Commons Licence so you can copy and use content if you want to. What you can't do - without permission - is sell it or the information on it.

Records content

Personal details in the Family Records are considered private and will be kept that way - though we cannot control behaviour of those who read it here.

Please consider if information you have is appropriate to be included in what is, after all, a public record of family details.
